The Siskiyou Summit bluegrass band from the Rogue Valley will take its audience on “A Bluegrass Journey – From the Roots to the Branches” on Saturday, February 18th beginning at 7:00p.m at the Roxy Ann Grange at 1850 Spring St. in Medford.

 “A Bluegrass Journey” illustrates through story and song the many musical influences that came together for the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe, to create a truly American art form known as Bluegrass music and how it has changed throughout the past 80 years. The show utilizes the talents of Siskyou Summit bluegrass band performing songs from Jimmy Rogers, BillMonroe, The Carter Family, Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, and many more. Oregon Shakespeare Festival actor Russel Lloyd as the narrator will tell the story.

 Music of “A Bluegrass Journey” spotlights most of the best-known Bluegrass songs beginning in the 1930s right up to today. Some of the songs featured are “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”, the theme for the movie “Bonnie and Clyde”, “Dueling Banjos” from “Deliverance” and of course, “Man of Constant Sorrow” from “O Brother, Where Art Thou” as well as many other Bluegrass hits. “ Not only will this show be a Bluegrass history lesson, of sorts, but it will entertain and be a whole lot of fun!” says Bob Evoniuk, the shows writer and Siskiyou Summit Dobro player.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years of age. Advanced ticket sales locations are Nelson’s Brake & Alignment 1303 N. Riverside in Medford and The Music Coop at The Music Coop 268 East Main Street in Ashland. The doors open at 6:30p.m. for early seating. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come-first serve basis.

From 1984 to 1996 Siskiyou Summit band members Bob Evoniuk (Dobro/guitar), Glenn Freese (guitar/hammered dulcimer) and Jeff Jones (mandolin/guitar) formed the core of the popular touring bluegrass band, Foxfire. The band was widely known for intricate instrumentation and a powerful vocal blend. The three have reunited to form the Foxfire Trio, featuring many songs from the original band's repertoire as well as new favorites.
